A NURSERY headteacher has been paid the ultimate tribute.
Sue Hedley, from East Boldon is the former headteacher of Hebburn’s Early Excellence Centre.
In a tribute to her hard work, governors renamed the centre the Sue Hedley Nursery School when she retired.
Mrs Hedley started working at the Early Excellence Centre 13 years ago, and took up the role of head of centre and nursery nine years ago.
She received three outstanding reports from Ofsted during her time at the nursery.
She has now stepped down but has vowed to continue her relationship with the school as a governor.
She said: “I was overwhelmed and just delighted at having the school named after me.
“I didn’t expect it at all. It’s an honour and an absolute privilege, and it’s so lovely to see it.
“Myself and the school have always been very passionate about the children and families, and we’ve tried to work together with them to create the best environment for the children.
“The relationship we’ve had over the years has built up and we had a vision of what we wanted, and seeing it all come to fruition was amazing.”
New headteacher Judith Reay added: “Renaming the school is a fantastic way to honour Sue’s hard work and dedication to children and parents.”
