EXCITED children had a roaring good time as they celebrated Chinese New Year.

Seaham Harbour Nursery School has held a host of fun activities to mark the start of the Year of the Rabbit.

Pupils pulled on traditional dress, learnt dances, created fans and lanterns and decorated paper plates with willow patterns.

The school, which has 78 children, also enjoyed eating at the China Diner, which served up snacks including noodles, prawn crackers and spring rolls.

The sessions are part of the nursery’s programme to widen its pupils’ understanding about different cultures.

Headteacher Carole Scott said: “The children really enjoyed it and it’s all part of the curriculum to develop their experiences.”
