A MAD Hatter’s tea party helped students raise cash for a children’s charity.
The team of catering students at East Durham College, in Peterlee, organised the Alice in Wonderland-themed event in aid of Barnardo’s.
The fund-raiser was held in the college’s Scene 1 restaurant and all aspects of the event, including planning, cooking, baking, costumes and decor, were organised by the young people themselves.
Organisers included Adam Jordon, 20, a hospitality student, who used plants from the college’s Houghall Campus to create themed floral arrangements to help dress the room.
Sharon Littler, catering and hospitality programme leader at the college, said: “It was a great event. Students worked so hard and really got into the spirit of things, especially with the costumes.
“Planning the event brought the whole department together, and we raised a grand total of £333.63 for Barnardo’s. The students are very pleased it is going to a great cause helping children in our area.”
Joanne Dixon, a project worker at Barnardo’s, said: “It was really wonderful that the college decided to hold this event in aid of our charity. Every penny helps and we are very thankful.”
