STAFF old and new came together to celebrate half a century of book lending at East Boldon Library.
A series of events have been planned this week to mark the 50th anniversary of the library, based in Boker Lane.
Already, a coffee morning, attended by the area’s councillors, and a Happy Birthday story time for tots have taken place. Tomorrow, pupils from West Boldon Primary School will be visiting while youngsters from East Boldon Primary School choir will host a performance on Friday.
Sharon McGarey, branch supervisor, said: “We have had lots of people through the doors to help us celebrate 50 years of being open. We have also had a lot of the old staff coming in which has been really nice.”
Kathryn Armstrong, branch manager, added: “The library is such an important community facility which provides people a place to come and borrow books or use the computers.
“It is also a place where people, who may otherwise would not go out, can come to.”
