A LITTLE bit of love was in the air when nursery children held their own wedding celebrations.

Pupils at Hetton Nursery School have spent the past few months learning all about weddings.

So this week, they decided to hold a ceremony of their own.

Claire Smith, headteacher at the nursery, said: “The children began looking at weddings around the time of the Royal Wedding, especially with Kate Middleton’s connections to Hetton.

“But, what has really made it more special to the children is one of our members of staff is getting married.”

Nursery nurse Helen Walker, who lives in Easington Lane, will wed her boyfriend, Kevin Green, on July 24 and Claire said the children have enjoyed planning their own weddings alongside Helen’s big day.

The nursery organised two mock weddings, one for the afternoon children and one for the morning children, and both were held at Hetton Independent Methodist Church followed by receptions back at the nursery for family and friends.

Claire said: “It has been a whole community thing and everyone has been really supportive.”
