A HEADTEACHER has been chosen for a top role to help schools facing challenging circumstances.

Bernadette Dolan, principal of New Seaham Academy, is one of only 96 headteachers to be appointed to the role of National Leader of Education (NLE) in the latest recruitment round.

The primary, in Byron Terrace, has been designated as a National Support School.

There are 800 NLEs across the country. Their leaders use success and professionalism to provide additional leadership in struggling schools, or those in transition to federation or academy status.
