SUNDERLAND High School pupils and staff volunteered to take part in the school’s annual Frugal Lunch.

They were joined by Father Andrew Collins Jones for the event, which was first introduced at the Mowbray Road school in 2012.

Those who took part in the lunch received soup, bread and a piece of fruit in place of the normal school dinner. The profits made by the catering company as a result of this will be given to a local Christian charity in order to allow others to receive food and support at a time of great need.

Dr Angela Slater, headteacher, said: “Many of our pupils felt encouraged to give up their own lunch to feed others.”
