PUPILS scored a real result when two former footballers came to their school to help kick out racism.
Youngsters at Hedworth Lane Primary School in Boldon Colliery, were paid a visit by former Newcastle United defender Olivier Bernard and former Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace left-back Dean Gordon.
The pair are part of the Show Racism the Red Card initiative – the UK’s educational charity which uses footballers to help tackle racism in society.
Headteacher Tony Gill said: “It is important to prepare our pupils for the multicultural Britain in which we live.
“This is particularly important for us living in the Boldon and Hedworth areas, which are largely mono-cultural.
“Through the vehicle of sport and football, our pupils were challenged to think about racist behaviour in life, not just on the terraces of the local football team.
“Hopefully the pupils will support the message of stamping out racism in football and in life.”
