A NURSERY teacher has said a fond farewell to the tiny tots after more than three decades.
Susan Harper has retired from teaching at Houghton Community Nursery School, after 37 years helping children as they start on their educational journey.
Headteacher at the Nesham Place nursery Jane Bulmer said Susan started her teaching career at the school and loved it so much she never left and even served on the school’s governing body.
Mrs Bulmer said: “She is passionate about learning in the outdoor environment and has greatly contributed to the development of the nursery garden, which has dedicated areas for growing and cooking food outdoors.”
In retirement, Susan, who is also a keen bird watcher, plans to spend more time in her own garden and also to volunteer at her nearby nature reserve.
The nursery teacher, who is married with two children, also plans to spend her spare time visiting family and friends.
A celebration day was held on her last day with children, parents and colleagues, both past and present, invited along to say their goodbyes and share stories and the nursery teacher was presented with her retirement gifts.
