CHILDREN served up a tasty treat for parents as they celebrated their school achieving Fairtrade status.

South Hylton Primary School has been awarded the accolade after pledging to make the school as Fairtrade-friendly as possible, and to educate pupils about what it means for suppliers across the globe.

After school, parents were invited in and were served various foods and treats the youngsters had made themselves.

Teacher Jacqueline Brown said: “We have achieved the status after completing five outcomes through the year.

“Our tuck shop is totally Fairtrade and all the drinks in the staff room are Fairtrade as well.

“We’re really pleased to have achieved it.”
