Excitement is growing ahead of the 2015 Durham Flower Festival this weekend.

Set over two days, Saturday and Sunday, the East Durham College’s Houghall Campus will play host to the second festival.

The show will see a wide range of amateur exhibits and horticultural trade and society displays along with a number of information stands and trade stalls selling a variety of craft and gardening products.

The amateur competition includes classes for flowers, fruit, vegetables, food and art.

Confirmed groups taking part will be the North East of England Orchid Society and North of England Bonsai.

East Durham College events co-ordinator and Durham Flower Festival Show secretary, Dianne Howe, said: “This is an incredibly exciting event to be working on and we are so pleased to be again hosting a flower show for the region at our Houghall Campus.

“The feedback from exhibitors and the public following the 2014 show was so positive we decided we must do it again and try to grow the show to give the local region a large horticultural festival to add to their diaries for years to come.”

The Durham Flower Festival will run each day from 10.30am to 5pm and admission will be priced at £5 per adult. Children under 16 can enter for free.

Free car parking is available at the Houghall Campus and refreshments will be available.
