COUNCILLORS have approved plans to close a Durham school.
Plawsworth Road Infant School, in Sacriston, near Durham City, will close its doors for the last time on August 13 next year.
Durham County Council expect the school’s 30 pupils to attend neighbouring schools.
David Williams, corporate director of children and young people’s services, said there had been less opposition to the plans than is usually the case.
He added that the school’s already low attendance numbers were expected to drop even further in the future.
All staff will be given support to find a new job.
The closure will save approximately £150,000 a year, which will be used to fund other schools, like Sacriston Nursery, where many of Plawsworth Road pupils are expected to go.
Coun Claire Vasey said: “This can be quite difficult at times but in this case is was very straightforward.”
