NEW principal Suzanne Duncan has taken up her post at East Durham College.

Suzanne, who joined the Peterlee-based college from Sunderland College, where she worked for five years as vice principal, takes over the role of principal and chief executive from Stuart Wesselby.

The 41-year-old, who lives in Durham, previously worked at East Durham College as assistant principal from 2003 to 2007.

Sue Reece, chairman of the college corporation, said: “Suzanne brings to the college an impressive range of experience and a successful track record. She will take forward our ambitious three-year plan to become an outstanding college.

“The governors, staff and students look forward to an exciting new chapter in the life of the college.”

Suzanne, who worked in the travel industry in London for a number of years before returning to the North East, said: “I am extremely privileged to have the opportunity to lead East Durham College to the next stage in its development.

“I’m also very excited about the positive contribution we can make to the individuals, communities and local economies we serve.”
