THE launch of a new partnership is set to build up opportunities for students.
East Durham College has joined forces with Wedi, an international manufacturer.
The partnership aims to provide construction skills and training opportunities for students, apprentices and tradesmen in tiling, plastering, site carpentry and bricklaying.
Rob Hutchinson, educational manager at East Durham College’s Technical Academy, in Peterlee, said: “Wedi, which is a market leading brand name that’s synonymous with tiling preparation systems for wet areas, approached the college to deliver a series of training modules aimed at apprentices as well as local builders, plumbers and contractors looking to develop their skills and practical knowledge on a range of new innovative methods and products.
“Working with Wedi will give our learners the chance to discover an array of new opportunities to enhance their skills and discover practical new solutions for everyday building projects.”
A new dedicated Wedi training facility has recently been completed at the academy.
Rob said: “It’s a superbly-equipped facility that will give all the students and trainees high-quality hands-on practical workshop experience.”
Peter Kindness, managing director designate for Wedi systems (UK), said: “We are delighted with the demand for the course, which has already proved a big hit, attracting tiling contractors from across the UK.”
The Wedi training courses on offer at the academy to trade professionals and contractors are split into two one-day modules and cover five core Wedi products.
Courses include practical workshops and informal lecture-based sessions delivered by Wedi applications manager, Tim Brain, who has a wealth of experience and background within the industry.
