BIG-HEARted pupils at a Boldon school will be on red alert for charity this week – as they continue their journey on the fundraising trail.

Hedworth Lane Primary School will be leading a class action to bolster donations for the nationwide Red Nose Day appeal.

This Friday the 13th will be lucky for some as youngsters get the chance to brighten up their school uniforms by taking part in a ‘wear it red’ day.

Prizes will be on offer for the most red pupil in each class.

Red noses have been on sale throughout the school, with all proceeds going to help a wide range of causes supported by the initiative.

The Friday fun day comes hot on the heels of the school raising vital cash for a charity supporting deaf children. The annual sign2sing event, organised by the deaf health charity SignHealth last month, saw schools, workplaces and community groups all over the country translate music into sign language

Pupils aged four to 11 learned the chosen sign2sing song as well as the hand signs to accompany it, with each donating £1 to take part in the big sing-a-long.

The event raised hundreds of pounds, with staff and pupils keen to repeat the feat as part of Red Nose Day.
