AMERICAN football team DC Presidents went back to school to promote their sport.

The Presidents, based at the Esh Stadium in Durham City, visited Durham Johnston School as part of their community involvement programme.

Team members talked to pupils and gave coaching sessions before organising a game.

“It’s been great working with the club and introducing a new sport to the school,” said PE teacher Andrea White.

“The visit was a great experience for the students, and some have already played competitively.

She added: “American football is a new skill and interest for them which is outside their usual sporting field.”

The visit was funded as part of a £9,000 grant from Sport England, which will see the Presidents go to more schools in the coming months.

Mick Tyler, Presidents’ commercial director, said: “American football is a fantastic sport and even better to play.

“We have only been in the area for 18 months, but the foundations we are putting in place have made the DC Presidents touch down positively in the North East.”
