Karl needed emergency surgery at Sunderland Royal Hospital after parts of his face were left hanging off.

The dog also bit his arm as Karl struggled to free himself.

He has had to put up with numerous trips to hospital as problems with his stitches persisted, but now his face has started to recover and he can look forward to leading a normal life.

The dog which attacked Karl, which belonged to a man living near his Wellington Court home, has since been destroyed.
