BLACK Cats fan Kyle Monarch was the first in line to pick up his club’s new home kit.
The adidas kit went on sale this morning at the Stadium of Light, with the kick-off of the Barclays Premier League season just eight days away.
The 17-year-old, from Hendon, waited 12 hours to pick up his kit.
“It looks great,” said the sports student at Sunderland College. “It is the first time I’ve been down here for the opening for a couple of years, but it was worth it.
“I’m looking forward to the new season. All we need now is a few good signings.”
The launch also saw families enjoy a free Footie Fun Day, organised by the Foundation of Light.
It included skills sessions, mini matches and football freestylers.
Supporters are also being given the opportunity to be pictured alongside their footballing heroes.
To celebrate the launch of the new kit, every purchaser also received an invitation to pose alongside the first-team squad for the “Biggest Team Photo” at the Stadium of Light during October half-term.
The club is hoping thousands of fans will take up the offer to appear in the photo.
Everyone who attends will receive a commemorative copy.
Black Cats captain Lee Cattermole said: “The players love the new home kit and the idea of getting team and supporters together for an official 2012/13 season photograph is brilliant.
“We know how much the red and white stripes mean to our fans and by getting fans and players together for this one-off photo we’ll be able to show them just how much their support means to us,”
The new home kit is available in the three official stores across Sunderland: the SAFC Store at the Stadium of Light, Debenhams in The Bridges, Sunderland and The Galleries, Washington.
