Durham students win noise row with pizzeria

STUDENTS have won their battle to limit noise at a pizzeria.

A group of Durham University flatmates joined forces to fight businessman Fabio Ciampolilo’s bid to play music until the early hours at La Spaghettata, in Saddler Street, Durham City.

Yesterday, they emerged victorious after the restaurateur withdrew his bid to extend the licence.

Councillor David Stoker, who supported the students, said: “I’m pleased the application has been withdrawn.

“I think it was highly inappropriate for a restaurant adjacent to residential accommodation to have a music licence into the early hours.”
