A TEAM of cyclists is taking part in a 3,000-mile ride of a lifetime.

The 14 students from Durham University reckon it will take about eight weeks to cycle from London to Istanbul in Turkey.

They leave in July and will travel through 12 countries in temperatures of up to 37 degrees centigrade.

Organiser Nic Bird hopes the expedition will raise about £20,000, which will be donated to ABF: The Soldiers’ Charity and other good causes.

“I have an older brother who is in Afghanistan for six months,” he said. “The cycle challenge is a small show of my appreciation to all those members of the armed forces who risk everything for us.”

Anyone wanting to sponsor the team can do so via the Just Giving website: www.justgiving.com/teams/london2istanbul, or contact Nic, tel: 07900 466772, or email: nic.nebird@btinternet.com.
