A SERIES of walks, guided tours and other activities marked International World Heritage Day in Durham City.

The cathedral and castle is one of a handful of World Heritage Sites in the country.

Activities for youngsters were held in the visitor centre, in a former almshouse in Owengate, the steep cobbled street leading up to the cathedral.

Children listened to storytellers and were able to do giant drawings on a Durham theme with help from illustrator Sam Church.

Guided walks and tours of the cathedral, castle and surrounding area will be held throughout the spring and summer.

Details of all events relating to the heritage site are available from the visitor centre, call 334 3805, or on its website www.durhamwhs.com
