DURHAM Passport Office will not close when it is taken over by the Home Office.
Under new Government plans announced today by Home Secretary Theresa May, Her Majesty’s Passport Office (HMPO) is to be brought under the control of the Home Office.
However, a spokeswoman for the Home Office said that the new plans do not mean the closure of any offices or redundancies.
The change follows high demand for passport applications and renewals earlier in the year.
The Home Secretary introduced a series of measures to ensure people were able to travel, which reduced the number of outstanding passport applications from 550,000 in June to 80,000 now.
