Durham park-and-ride fares set to increase

PARK-AND-RIDE fares are set to rise.

Durham County Council’s charges have remained unchanged since the scheme was launched in December 2005.

However, they will rise from April 2 in the face of escalating inflation and fuel costs, and to protect free travel for passengers under 16 and concessions.

An all-day ticket will go from £1.70 to £2.

All-day tickets bought using a smart card will change from £1.50 to £1.70.

The scheme, which aims to support people visiting the historic city without taking vehicles into it, is hugely successful, carrying more than 1.1million passengers a year.

Members of the public with any queries should call the council’s parking services team on 03000 263985.
