Durham fire crews attacked

Have your say

DURHAM fire crews have been attacked as they try to put out illegal fires just days before Bonfire Night.

In one shocking case, laser pens were used to dazzle firefighters in Wheatley Hill, near Peterlee.

Other incidents include mud and stones being hurled at crews.

Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service warned that a “zero-tolerance approach” would be taken to offenders.

Andrew Allison, from the fire brigade, said: “To attack or hinder the emergency crews is an offence.”
