ABANDONED kittens dumped on a doorstep are now looking forward to meeting their new owners.

The cats were left in two cardboard boxes at RSPCA Felledge Centre at Chester Moor, near Chester-le-Street.

One box contained five kittens and their mother while the other had a male and female adult.

The kittens were suffering because their mother had been unable to produce enough milk to feed them.

They were underweight and had eye infections, but nine weeks on, they have responded to treatment and are now ready to be re-homed.

Cattery supervisor Emma Shade said the mother and the adult male already had new homes.

She said: “They are really nice cats.

“They are doing really well and their eyes are open now. We had CCTV footage of a lady putting them on the doorstep.

“She did leave them in a place where they would be found.”
