A DRUNKEN reveller was almost hit by a train as he crossed the tracks.
The man ignored warning signs and barriers at the end of the platform at Durham station, and climbed on to the track to reach the other side.
As he made his way across the line after a night out on December 11, a train entered the station at speed, missing him by inches.
Station manager Phil Crow said: “Non-stop trains pass through Durham station at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, giving anyone who trespasses on to the line no time to avoid an oncoming train.
“This incident caused a great deal of distress to passengers and staff on the station who saw what happened, and to the train driver who was deeply affected by what happened.
“Trains were also delayed as a result of the incident, affecting many hundreds of passengers along the line.
“This could very easily have had tragic consequences.”
A 50-year-old man has admitted causing an obstruction on the railway and been cautioned by police.
