HALF of young drivers who recently crashed say using their mobile was at least partly to blame.

The most popular reason was to text, second was talking, next was to update social media and lastly to use a smartphone app.

Mark Peacock, head of BSM, stressed it was illegal to use a phone while driving and added: “Young drivers who have grown up with technology that encourages them to be contactable every minute of the day need to realise there are some situations when they need to concentrate on the present and ignore the lure of the phone and internet.”
