A WOMAN had to be cut free from her car after a rush-hour smash.
Commuters were met by tailbacks after an unidentified car went into the back of the woman’s Peugeot.
Two fire crews from North Moor and one from Washington were called to the scene at 5.12pm yesterday on the A19, near the Hastings Hill roundabout.
After the woman began experiencing back pain, paramedics recommended she stay in the car.
Firefighters removed the roof so that she could be removed on a stretcher and taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.
