A DRIVER had to be cut free from his car before being taken to hospital with back injuries after a crash.
Emergency services were called to Byland Court, in Glebe, Washington, after the collision between the Audi A4 and BMW M5.
Fire crews had to cut off the door of the Audi to free the driver.
He was then taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment to spinal injuries.
The front-seat passenger was also taken to hospital, suffering from shock.
The driver of the BMW was able to free himself before the fire crews arrived.
He did not need hospital treatment.
The crash took place yesterday at about noon.
