Driver cut free from car after Sunderland road crash

A MOTORIST was taken to hospital after a road crash in Sunderland last night.

Two crews from Sunderland Central fire station were called out to Toward Road at 8.30pm after a collision between a Skoda and a Ford Transit.

The driver of the Skoda had to be cut free from the vehicle by fire fighters, before being taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital with suspected neck and hip injuries.

The driver of the Ford Transit was unhurt.

Fire fighters spent 25 minutes at the scene, helping police to clear the road after assisting the drivers.
