POLICE caught a drink-driver trying to jump start a stolen car.
Lee Little, 28, from James William Street in Sunderland’s East End, was caught by officers as he tried to run away from the VW Corrado.
He pleaded guilty to drink driving, taking a vehicle without consent, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a vehicle without insurance when he appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Paul Anderson told the bench that Little and another man were found trying to push the car along Hendon Valley Road.
“It had been taken very shortly before hand,” he said.
“He gets into the driver’s seat and his friend is pushing behind. They see the police, run off and they are detained very quickly.
“He says he has very little recollection of what went on, because he had been drinking and taking drugs, but accepts if that was what the officers say happened, then that is what happened.”
A blood test showed Little was above the legal limit, with a reading of 131 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The limit is 80 milligrams.
Chris Wilson, defending, said: “Quite clearly there are some aggravating factors to this case and I would invite you to ask for a pre-sentence report.”
Magistrates imposed a temporary driving ban on Little and adjourned the case for Probation Service reports.
