Dog saved after jumping from pier

A DOG was saved from the sea after jumping off Roker Pier.

Lola the border collie sparked a rescue mission after falling within the walls of Sunderland’s harbour just before 4.20pm yesterday.

HM Coastguard officers used a lifebelt to coax the eight-year-old dog back to the beach.

She was taken to an emergency vet, suffering from the early signs of hypothermia and cuts to her paws.

Neil Mearns, coastguard rescue officer, said: “The rescue team dangled a lifebelt down in front of the dog. She followed the lifebelt and helped by a couple of waves, we got her back to the beach and out.”
