LANTERNS glinted in the autumn sunshine for the Hindu festival, Diwali.
Crafted by families from Sunderland’s Bangladeshi community, the lantern parade was a tribute to the annual celebration, known as the Festival of Lights.
Visitors to the Museum and Winter Gardens made their own lanterns in creative workshops led by the venue’s learning teams, with learning officer Jennie Lambert and tutor Josie Taggart.
Jo Cunningham, manager of Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens, said: “We had a fantastic day with everyone making beautiful lanterns. Their colourful parade, set to music, was magical.
“We’d like to say thank you to the families from Sunderland’s Bangladeshi community who came and shared their celebrations with us. “
There was a guided walk around the gardens and Worlds Alive galleries, to gain inspiration for the designs of the lanterns from plants and animals.
