DEMOLITION of Durham City’s former ice rink has started.
The rink, most recently used as a bowling alley, is to be replaced by two office blocks.
One of these will house about 400 staff from National Savings and Investments, who will transfer from their offices on the opposite side of the River Wear.
A tenant for the second office block is yet to be found.
Both buildings will be in the Durham vernacular style.
Developers Carillion hope to be on site next month, and are scheduled to finish in early 2015.
