A COUPLE today said they were facing demands for cash from Clayton Bennett – despite ending their contract in good time.
Fiona Gill and Chris Tobin booked the photographer in October to photograph their wedding, to be held at the Stadium of Light next month, and handed over a £150 deposit.
But after seeing newspaper stories about Bennett’s videos and photographs, they decided to end their contract.
Under its terms, the couple are within their rights to pull out as long as they inform him more than 60 days before the wedding.
The couple wrote to him on March 15, but they say that despite giving more than the required notice period, Bennett has sent a letter by recorded delivery demanding £200 he claims they still owe him and his We Photograph Your Wedding firm.
Fiona, 28, and Chris, 29, who works for Sage business and software firm in technical support, say they will refuse any demands.
Fiona, an events co-ordinator at Sage Gateshead, said: “I know we weren’t going to get that deposit back, but as far as we were concerned, we kept to our part of the contract.
“We lost the £150, but we were taking one for the team, as it were.
“I just don’t want anyone else to fall into the trap and pay the full amount. We’re definitely not paying the rest.”
When the Echo approached Bennett, he declined to comment.
