MOTORISTS could face delays as emergency repair work is carried out on a damaged gas main.
Engineers will be at the site in Union Street, Sunderland, from tomorrow morning.
The road will be closed until Tuesday.
Traffic will be diverted along High Street West, into York Street and temporary traffic lights will be in place.
Simon Mears, from Northern Gas Networks, said: “We’d like to apologise to pedestrians and motorists for any inconvenience caused while these essential repairs are carried out.
“We hope to complete this essential emergency work as quickly as possible.”
Anyone who smells gas should call the national emergency number, 0800 111 999.
