A DECISION on cuts to the Coastguard service has been delayed by six weeks.
But Transport Minister Mike Penning insisted there would be changes as the Coalition looks to cut the number of control centres.
It is feared the Humber Coastguard, which covers Wearside and East Durham, will no longer operate round the clock under plans to slash the number of stations from 18 to eight. The closest 24-hour operational centre could be Aberdeen.
The consultation period has been extended and will run until the beginning of May.
