AFRICAN dancing, games and a host of activities marked We Love Parks week.

Families flocked to Thompson Park, in Southwick, yesterday to enjoy a day of activities.

Jambo Africa entertained the crowd with their musical and dance skills, while youngsters enjoyed playing games, including snakes and ladders, rounders, football and dodgeball.

Facepainters were on hand to give children a fun makeover.

Mayor of Sunderland Councillor Norma Wright welcomed families to the special day.

“We wanted to stage an event which would attract people and help us showcase the park.

“Thompson Park is fantastic mixture of traditional features and new play and sports facilities.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has made this event possible with their hard work and support.”

Thompson Park opened in 1933.

Along with its traditional features it also provides sports facilities, including bowling greens, tennis courts and football pitches.
