FED-UP Kev Hall claims he is living in a “home from hell” that has left him with frostbite.

Kev, who rents his home in Telford Road, Thorney Close, from Gentoo, says he has a number of issues with the property.

The 30-year-old said: “My biggest complaint is the damp in the kitchen – it’s been going on for nearly three months now.

“Every time it rains, my kitchen bench is covered in water and there’s an electrical socket in the middle of the wall that has nearly electrocuted me twice.”

The forklift driver says that as well as problems with damp there is also mould in his bathroom, problems with his heating which were so bad last winter he suffered from frostbite.

He also says that living on a main bus route has become a nuisance as he only has single-glazed windows and is kept awake by traffic.

He said: “Last winter, it was so cold that my feet started to swell up and I couldn’t get my work boots on. I went to the doctors and was told that I had frostbite, which is unusual in this country.

“It’s getting cold again now and my foot is starting to swell so I’m worried that it’ll happen again.

“The damp in the kitchen is so bad that it’s cracking the walls but someone from Gentoo has told me it’s just down to condensation.

“I first rang them about it on August 29 and I’m still waiting for someone to come out. I just feel really let down, especially since I’m paying £80 a week to live here.”

Ian Porter, managing director of Gentoo Sunderland said: “We are working with Mr Hall to resolve these issues. To eliminate the problem of water ingress, roof tiles are being replaced today and the wall will be repaired and redecorated as soon as it has dried out.

“In regards to double glazing, Mr Hall is part of the investment plan and is due to have double glazing and a new energy efficient boiler fitted in the new year.

“We apologise for the breakdown of communication between parties, however these issues are in the process of being resolved.”
