POLICE are hunting a hit-and-run driver after a cyclist was knocked from his bike in East Durham.

The smash happened at about 12.15pm today on the A1086 coast road at Blackhall Rocks, near the entrance to Dene Mouth Caravan Park.

It is believed that the cyclist – who is in his 30s and from South Tyneside – was clipped by the wing mirror of a black, family-sized saloon car.

The impact flung him from his bike into a parked Vauxhall Insignia. He suffered minor injuries and received treatment at hospital in South Shields.

Both the bike and the black Insignia were damaged.

PC Kieron Goulden, of Durham’s roads policing unit, said: “I would ask the driver of the black saloon to get in touch with us. It is unlikely they were unaware of what happened and we would like to speak to them about the incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Durham Police on 101.
