A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy suffered injuries to his hand after being attacked in the street.
The youngster was playing in the Chapel Hill Road area of Peterlee, not far from his home, when the assault happened at about 7.30pm on Wednesday.
Police have been carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area.
Detective Sergeant Joanne Long said: “Our inquiries suggest a woman wearing a pink coat was walking a spaniel dog in the Chapel Hill area at the time the incident took place.
“I would urge her to contact police as she could have information vital to our investigation.”
A 54-year-old man has been arrested and is being questioned by police.
