SEVEN cars were hit by stones thrown from a city bridge.
Police are warning youngsters about the dangers of throwing items from bridges after cars were struck on the A182 Washington Highway by items thrown from the pedestrian footbridge.
Damage was caused to car windscreens and paintwork but Dave Cole, Acting Neighbourhood Inspector for Washington, said the consequences could have been far worse.
“These youngsters may see this as a prank but it’s completely irresponsible and dangerous,” he said.
“Not only are they putting people’s lives at risk, they could end up with a criminal record which could ultimately impact on their future.
“The youngsters involved need to think carefully about the consequences of their actions - they have been warned.
“We know it’s a handful of young people who are involved and I’d urge anyone with information or who witnesses any offences taking place to let us know as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 ext 69191 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
