THIEVES nabbed a replica World Cup from a Wearside bar – at the same time as Germany were winning the real thing by beating rivals Argentina in Brazil.
The theft took place when the statue was taken from behind the bar at Champs, in Ayton, Washington, on Sunday night.
Germany won their fourth World Cup after beating Argentina 1-0 on Sunday evening in Rio De Janeiro.
A police spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 11.10am on Monday that items from a World Cup display had been stolen.
“Anyone with information should call Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference number 432 14/07/14.”
