Woman with head injuries believed to have been assaulted

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman suffered a head injury in Sunderland.

It happened in a bus stop on Roker Avenue, near to the Wheatsheaf Pub, between 9.45pm and 10pm on Thursday, March 19, where a 43 year-old woman is believed to have been assaulted.

The woman was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening.

A 31 year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and bailed pending further enquiries.

Officers are carrying out inquiries in the area and are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have been in the area at the time.
