Police are looking for the female driver of a car involved in a crash in which a cyclist was knocked off his bike.

A silver saloon-type vehicle with the top down collided with the cyclist at just after 9.45am yon Wednesday, July 1, at the junction of Dame Dorothy Street and North Bridge Street on the north side of the Wearmouth Bridge.

The cyclist suffered minor injuries as a result and his bike was damaged.

The vehicle stopped momentarily to check on the cyclist before driving away in the direction of Newcastle Road.

Police are keen to speak to the driver as their enquiries into the circumstances of the collision continue.

She is described as white, aged 35 to 40, with blonde or light brown hair, and tanned.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is also being asked to come forward.
