A MAN whose collection of child pornography was found by his girlfriend, has been jailed.

Steven Jackson had images of children as young as three involved in sexual activity with adults, Durham Crown Court heard.

“The matter came to light when the defendant’s girlfriend borrowed his iPhone,”
said Richard Bennett, prosecuting.

“While using it, she noticed a message from a flirting website.

“She looked at emails stored on the phone and found
some had indecent images attached.”

The court heard police found more images on Jackson’s home computer, including one at the most serious level five category, and 48 at level four.

Jackson, 26, of Southdowns, Chester-le-Street, admitted 16 charges of possessing an indecent photograph of child on December 24, 2011.

Tom Moran, defending, said in mitigation: “This offending clearly passes the custody threshold, but the likely short sentence will not give the time for Mr Jackson to receive the treatment he needs.

“He was frank with the
probation service, admitting he has a sexual interest in young girls.

“They say they can work with him, and a long community order may better protect the public.”

Jailing Jackson for six months, Judge Peter Kelson QC told
him: “Your frankness with the probation service is unusual and enlightening.

“It has to be said the images are filthy and perverted, showing as they do, children as young as three being forced to engage in sexual activity.

“There were also about 3,000 emails on your computer in which you corresponded with like-minded individuals to further the market in illegal child pornography.

“The courts would like to stop this activity entirely, if that were possible.”

Jackson was made the subject of a 10-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order which bans him from unsupervised contact with children, and restricts his internet use.

Jackson’s phone and computer were confiscated, and he must register as a sex offender for 10 years.
