A pervert has been put behind bars for ten years for historic sex attacks on two schoolgirls.
Alan Ibinson targeted his victims when they were young children.
One victim, now an adult, told police that Ibinson made her feel "physically sick" and added: "I hated myself when the truth finally came out.
"I didn't know if anyone would believe me."
The other victim, who is also grown up now, told detectives what happened to her was her "biggest nightmare" and "the darkest part of my life".
Newcastle Crown Court heard the 62-year-old subjected both youngsters to sickening attacks that have had a devastating effect on their lives.
Ibinson, of Lambton Avenue, Hetton, was convicted of 13 offences of indecent assault and sexual assault after a trial.
He denied all offences throughout, meaning his victims had to relive their ordeals in court.
Mr recorder Alisdair MacDonald QC sentenced him to ten years behind bars with a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and sex offender registration.
The judge told him: "The victims thought this was a guilty secret. They bear no guilt , they were courageous in coming forward to speak about this.
"The only person to bear any guilt is you.
"They have lived with this over a period of years. It is clear they have suffered great anguish and distress in all areas of their lives as a result of your quest for illicit gratification."
The court heard Ibinson has lived the life of a hard working family man and has no other convictions.
He continues to deny the offences.
