A MAN accused of a firearms offence who failed to turn up at court has been arrested and remanded in custody.

Jonathon Watson, 25, of Lawnswood, Houghton, was due before Durham Crown Court earlier this month to answer a charge of purchasing a prohibited weapon.

He did not turn up and Judge Christopher Prince issued a warrant for his arrest.

Watson appeared in custody before the same court on Friday.

No charge was put during the short preliminary hearing.

Nicholas Rooke, defending, applied for a psychiatrist’s report to be prepared on Watson.

Judge Prince granted the application and remanded Watson in custody until July 4.
