A PUB landlady has told of her shock after a popular dad was shot dead in the street.
Tipu Sultan, 32, was killed by a single gunshot wound in a shooting outside Herbs n Spice Kitchen takeaway in Lake Avenue, South Shields, shortly before 10pm last night.
Victoria Chisholm, 37, landlady at the nearby Lake Pub, gave a tearful tribute and told of her horror at the shooting.
“It’s a huge, huge shock. He was a lovely, lovely bloke. Everyone is gutted. He was a big part of the community. Everyone loved him. Nobody deserves that, nobody,” she said.
“I was upstairs reading my friend’s kids a story when it happened. I came down to get them a drink round about 10pm and I saw my partner flying out the pub.
“He came back in and said ‘he’s been shot.’ I said ‘who?’ and he said ‘Tip’.”
Victoria said she was so horrified by the incident she was unable to comprehend what had happened.
“The family were standing there with blood on them. At first I didn’t believe it. I thought it was tandoori sauce or something like that. You don’t believe that things like this happen.”
The 37-year-old said staff kept customers inside to ensure their safety.
She said Mr Sultan had no enemies and she was at a loss as to why anyone would wish to kill the popular dad, who is from Sunderland, but originally from Bangladesh.
“Everybody adored Tip,” she said. “Stuff like that just doesn’t happen in your street. It happens in inner cities, it doesn’t happen in quiet streets like ours.”
