A TEENAGER has been arrested after playing with fireworks.
The 16-year-old, from Washington, was also given an £80 fine after police received a complaint about youngsters messing about with fireworks.
He was found with bangers on Saturday.
Officers are now warning other youngsters they face being quizzed by police if they are caught with fireworks.
In the run-up to Bonfire Night, pupils across Wearside will be given a lesson on the consequences of playing with fireworks when police and fire crews visit schools.
Inspector Lisa Musgrove, said: “In the wrong hands fireworks can be very dangerous and youngsters who play with them are risking serious injury to themselves and other members of the public.”
Retailers are being reminded it is illegal to sell fireworks to under-18s.
